Ok.  So it's been a month since my last blog.  We have been really busy at school this past month.  With Homecoming Week behind us, we are now gearing up for Elementary and Junior High UIL as well as the District LDE contest for FFA all which are held in November. We began working with Junior High students during activity period this week to get ready to defend our District Champion title from last year.  I am personally coaching grades 6-8 Listening Skills and 7-8 Editorial Writing. The yearbook classes have also been busy this past six weeks.  We have been learning to tag pictures with names in Photoshop Elements.  This will help us alot when sorting and placing pictures in the yearbook.  We have also been training in the yearbook software.  The first deadline for Fall Layouts is in November.  FYI--since the beginning of school we have taken over 2000 pictures!!  That's alot of sorting and tagging!! In the freshman BCIS I class we are still working in Microsoft Word.  6th Grade Keyboarding is still learning all of the keys on the keyboard.  We are taking a little break this week in Keyboarding to watch the movie "Monster House."  It's a great movie that was completely created using computer animation.  After we finish watching it, we are going to see how the movie was actually made. In Accounting I, the sophomores have completed the first half of the accounting cycle.  They are working on a problem that involves posting transactions to the General Journal then to the General Ledger and finally computing the trial balance.  They are learning how important the details and the importance of balancing the debits and credits. Accounting II - We FINALLY got the working papers for this class last week.  They are working on a merchandising problem that will take the rest of this week to complete. As you can see, we are rockin' and rollin' this school year.  Please feel free to drop by anytime and see what is happening in the technology classroom!!

The 1st graders have two new class pets.  I'm sure you have heard about them at home.  Meet Rosie and Spike.  They are hermit crabs. The kids have really enjoyed watching them in their habitat, learning about them and taking care of them.

Happy Beginning of School to EVERYONE!! These past two weeks have been fast and furious, but I believe I am going to survive.  We finally have all of the computers, printers, program issues, etc running correctly. We have been really busy in my classes also. BCIS I:  This is a freshman class that involves learning the software in Microsoft Office.  The first week the kids became familiar with the common vocabulary utilized in the Microsoft programs.  This week they have started learning Microsoft Word.  So far, they have completed four exercises in the first lesson.  Everyone has been working really hard and we are having lots of fun. YEARBOOK I, II, and III:  We have gotten off to a really great start this year.  Several members of the yearbook staff attended training this summer to help design the cover, select a theme, and complete the ladder of assignments.  The past two weeks we have been assigning layouts and begun researching design.  The kids have also been completing required photo assignments for their grade. 6th Grade KEYBOARDING:  The 6th graders are making the adjustment to Junior High reasonably well.  They are learning organizational skills as well as the importance of completing assignments and homework on time.  In Keyboarding, they are learning the correct way to use a keyboard and have already complete 4 lessons.  Everyone is working hard and doing a good job so ar. ACCOUNTING I:  The sophomores have entered the world of business!  This class has been working hard and has completed Chapter 3, which included taking an exam.  We began Chapter 4 in class today.  Chapter 4 adds T-account terminology to the basic accounting equation information they learned last week. Week 1 grades for all classes have been posted.  I try to post grades every Monday.  If you have any questions in the meantime, please e-mail me:  khoelscher@whitharralisd.org or feel free to give me a call.
